What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program designed for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade (ages 5-11). It builds character, teaches citizenship, and develops personal fitness through a mix of hands-on activities, outdoor adventures, and community service.

How a Cub Scout Pack is Organized

Cub Scouts are organized by grade levels, called "Dens". The Dens meet and work on age-appropriate adventures together, led by trained adult volunteers. All dens together make up the "Pack", which meets monthly for larger activities, ceremonies, and fun events.

Scouts earn adventure loops and pins as they complete age-appropriate activities with their den and family towards earning their rank!

Dens & Ranks

Each grade level has its own den and rank, with activities tailored to that age group. As Scouts grow, the program becomes progressively more challenging and independent.

Lion (Kindergarten)

Lions are introduced to Scouting through simple, play-based activities. With a parent or guardian by their side at every meeting, they explore nature, learn to work together, and begin building confidence. Adventures focus on creativity, basic outdoor skills, and having fun.

Tiger (1st Grade)

Tigers start taking on a little more responsibility. Activities are still family-centered, but Scouts begin learning foundational skills like basic first aid, simple cooking, and the buddy system. They explore their community through field trips and service projects.

Wolf (2nd Grade)

Wolves build on what they learned as Tigers with more structured adventures. They develop teamwork through den activities, learn about nature and conservation, and start working on skills like knot tying, compass reading, and outdoor cooking.

Bear (3rd Grade)

Bears tackle more challenging adventures that push them outside their comfort zone. They take on bigger outdoor activities like longer hikes and overnight camping, learn about wildlife, and begin developing leadership skills within their den.

Webelos (4th Grade)

Webelos marks the transition toward Scouts BSA. Scouts take on significantly more independence, working on activity badges that cover science, technology, outdoors, and citizenship. They begin planning their own activities and may visit Boy Scout or Scouts BSA troops.

Arrow of Light (5th Grade)

Arrow of Light is the highest rank in Cub Scouting and the only Cub Scout rank that can be worn on a Scouts BSA uniform. These Scouts lead den activities, complete a significant outdoor experience, and prepare to cross over into a Scouts BSA troop. The program emphasizes leadership, self-reliance, and readiness for the next chapter of their Scouting journey.
