Mitch Park Hike

Our next Pack Meeting will be a hike at Mitch Park. We’re excited to get outdoors together, enjoy some fresh air, and spend time on the trail as a Pack. This hike will also help us chase down some of the final requirements Scouts need to complete in order to earn their ranks!

**NEW MEETING LOCATION**

Date: Monday, April 6th

Time:

  • 6:30 - Meet at Amphitheater
  • 6:35 - Special presentation from Eagle District reps
  • 6:45 - Start hike (try to be on time!)
  • 8:00 - Meet back at the Amphitheater and depart

Start Location: Mitch Park Amphitheater (stage), directly behind the Edmond Senior Center and East of the pond.

Address: 2733 Marilyn Williams Dr, Edmond, OK 73003

Special Notes: Evening baseball games cause a lot of parking and traffic congestion. We have moved our meeting place as far away from the chaos as possible, that is why we are no longer launching from the playground.

Hike Details:

There will be two hiking groups strolling casually through the scenic Mitch Park. The Lions, Tigers, Wolves, and Bears will complete a 1-mile easy hike through low grass areas, with stops along the way for about 1 hour. The Webelos will complete a Scout led (save us all) 2-mile hike. Both groups will end back at the Amphitheater by 8:00.

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Bug spray (anticipate possibility for ticks)
  • Water bottle

Preparation starts before we hit the trail. All Scouts are encouraged to bring the Cub Scout Six Essentials, and we will review them together before the hike. We likely will not need most of these items, but bringing them helps teach Scouts the importance of being prepared for any outdoor adventure.

  1. Filled water bottle — Helps Scouts stay hydrated on the hike.
  2. Small first aid kit — Useful for minor cuts, scrapes, or blisters.
  3. Whistle — A simple way to get attention quickly if a Scout needs help.
  4. Flashlight — Handy in low light or if the group finishes later than expected.
  5. Sun protection — Sunscreen, a hat, or other sun protection helps prevent sunburn.
  6. Trail food — A small snack helps keep energy up during outdoor activities.
